Sprout Fiber Internet service will become available to more than 7,000 additional Cullman Electric Cooperative members in 2025. The announcement was made at Cullman EC’s 88th annual meeting on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024.
Cullman Electric launched its fiber-optic broadband internet subsidiary service in July 2020, and completed its first in-home installation in January 2021. Since then, Sprout Fiber Internet has grown to serve more than 11,500 subscribers across the Cullman Electric Cooperative service area.
Cullman Electric CEO Tim Culpepper said the 2025 expansion is a direct result of Sprout’s continued success.
“The community’s response to our high-speed broadband internet service has been phenomenal,” Culpepper said. “Around 40 percent of those who are eligible for service have signed up for high-speed internet service with us.”
Sprout’s 2025 expansion plan will reach 15 distribution areas, including the largest remaining geographic areas in the northwest and southern portions of Cullman EC’s service territory. A timeline for when service will be available in specific areas will be released later this year.
“The 2025 expansion plan is heavily influenced by grant funding with almost all of our expansion areas at least partially funded by grants,” Culpepper said. “If our plans don’t change, we expect substantial completion of our build out by the end of 2026.”
